I used to absolutely LOVE getting the Christmas tree, decorating it, decorating the house, driving around to see Christmas lights, etc etc etc. Over the past few years, I've kinda "lost that lovin' feelin" about Christmas, and it has started to show. Last year was so bad, we didn't even get a TREE! And it was even worse - we didn't EVEN put up the fake one we had in the basement! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
So, I'm turning over a new leaf. This year, we have already (kind of) started decorating, and I have actually bought a few new decorations, can you imagine? Did you know that JoAnne's already has their Christmas decorations at 50% off? I may have to do a little more shopping before it's all said and done, but shhhhh, don't tell Divine Hubby! :)
We probably won't get a REAL Christmas tree, but I'm ok with that. The fake one is in the garage and a few real garlands for the mantle will scent the house nicely without all of the mess and expense.
Divine hubby and I even put a pretty good dent in the shopping this weekend - and we really had fun together. Daniel, one of Chase's friends came to visit from Colorado, and his dad took the boys to the Hoover Dam on Saturday, so Divine Hubby and I had some shopping time. I know, I know, you are amazed that Divine Hubby would go shopping with me, but we have always really enjoyed Christmas shopping together. Divine Hubby is a GREAT shopper - we have the same philosophy and taste in stuff, and it's something we have always enjoyed doing together.
So, my Christmas resolution is to put the fun back in Christmas. Chase and I made some Operation Christmas Child boxes, we're decorating a little, and we're firmly in the spirit. AND, the neighbors have already paid big bucks to have their lights put up (cracks me up that people pay for that...), so the neighborhood is starting to look a lot like (a Vegas) Christmas!

I haven't decorated for several years either because we have gone to see Alyson, and I didn't see any sense in having to come home to the chore of taking down decorations I hadn't been around to enjoy.
This year it will only be UJ and me. So far the Christmas spirit hasn't hit, but I'm hoping it will since I have time to decorate and will be here to enjoy the decorations. I could decorate 3 houses with the decorations I have, but I still oooooohhh and aaaaaahhh over them in the stores...I just don't want to put them up. Send some spirit this way, would ya'.
just curious...why not a *real tree? It sounds like you really like them.
Cause they are $100 plus for one we would actually like! We are with you guys in trying to minimize the spendy-ness of this Christmas, and using the free fake tree we already have is probably the best way to do that.
Yes, I know. (sigh). But they smell so good. Mmmm.
I have one criteria when I am tree shopping. Smell. I go around to all the trees on the lot and find the one that smells the most. We've had some pretty funny-looking trees these past couple of years.
Since we always travel on the holiday, too, we've started buying our tree right after Thanksgiving to get the most out of it. And then, when we leave for the holidays (usually around the 20th), we post it on craigslist as "free to a good home". We always get a number of interested folks, and I'm sure we'll have no problem passing it on this year (with the economy situation), too. Makes you feel better about the exorbitant prices when at least two families can get some use out of it!
SIL - I'll solve the smell problem by buying a nice fresh wreath and some garland...and those lovely cinnamon pinecones the grocery store is selling! mmmmmmm
Kate - what a FANTASTIC idea! Unfortunately, we're leaving town on 12/24, so I don't think it will work for us this year, but I love your recycling idea, and what a great gift to give another family. I will keep that in mind for future years, and hope someone else can use the idea too!
